On Monday, the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin established a new department dedicated to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI). Two Left-wing activists, Peniel Joseph and Estevan Delgado, were named the department’s associate dean and director beginning in January 2022.
Peniel Joseph is a current faculty member at UT who has publicly promoted the 1619 Project. He penned an op-ed with CNN attacking Kyle Rittenhouse as “the epitome of White privilege in America run amok.” Voter records show Joseph voted in the past three Democrat primary elections.
Estevan Delgado is another radical Leftist who tweeted support for AOC and attacks on Ted Cruz and Greg Abbott. He previously worked for Democrat Congressman Gene Green and currently sits on the leadership committee for the HABLYA Y VOTA Action Fund, a group dedicated to advancing Left-wing Hispanic candidates. Voter records show he also voted in the past three Democrat primary elections.
Huffines issued the following statement:
“Greg Abbott promised Texans he would combat Critical Race Theory and stop taxpayer money from fueling the radical Left’s attack on Texas. However, Texas schools have become hotbeds for this Marxist poison under his leadership. State agencies and public colleges and universities have as well. This decision by UT Austin to defy the values of everyday Texans is just the latest example of Greg Abbott’s failed leadership.”
Huffines further added:
“I want to be very clear that the ‘Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion’ is just a fancy term for state-sponsored Critical Race Theory. Both Peniel Joseph and Estevan Delgado are radical Left-wing advocates that should not be promoted in this way. When I am Governor of Texas, I will ensure that our state universities promote education, not indoctrination.”
Don Huffines is a proud fifth-generation Texan, husband, father, grandfather, and self-made entrepreneur. A committed conservative, Huffines is fighting to safeguard Texans’ elections, phase out property taxes, and secure the border once and for all. Huffines is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott from the right in the Texas Republican primary. Texans deserve leadership. No excuses.
