Based on the cost of prior loan pauses, this extension will cost an estimated $20 billion to subsidize over the next four months, on top of the $76 billion already spent on the loan pauses over the last year and a half.
Bipartisanship cannot be an excuse for bad policy. This is not a bill focused on fixing roads and bridges, this is a down payment on a Washington takeover of America’s economy – expanding federal programs and mandates while spending hard-earned tax dollars with little regard for results.
Democrat candidates in Pennsylvania are already sprinting as far Left as possible, embracing Bernie Sanders’ agenda to ban fracking and destroy Pennsylvania energy jobs and agreeing with the Democrats’ reckless tax and spending spree. Conor Lamb is just another extreme progressive liberal joining the other extreme progressive liberals.
The offsets in the bill will not fully cover what it will spend, certainly not what was claimed in the framework. They fall far short of the promises made. Americans need to know whether and how the federal government plans to actually pay for the full cost of the bill.
As people struggle to stretch their last dollar to afford reliable transportation amid rising gasoline prices, this administration is now asserting more control over the vehicles we drive to work, take our children to school, and live our lives. It’s unfair to people whose car is not a luxury but a necessity.
