New permanent welfare with no work requirements. Reams of Green New Deal mandates. Massive tax hikes that shrink wages and kill jobs. Government meddling in childcare that would privilege certain families’ choices over others’.
Based on the cost of prior loan pauses, this extension will cost an estimated $20 billion to subsidize over the next four months, on top of the $76 billion already spent on the loan pauses over the last year and a half.
Bipartisanship cannot be an excuse for bad policy. This is not a bill focused on fixing roads and bridges, this is a down payment on a Washington takeover of America’s economy – expanding federal programs and mandates while spending hard-earned tax dollars with little regard for results.
The offsets in the bill will not fully cover what it will spend, certainly not what was claimed in the framework. They fall far short of the promises made. Americans need to know whether and how the federal government plans to actually pay for the full cost of the bill.
The U.S. economy added 943,000 jobs in the month of July, with a decline in unemployment to 5.4 percent according to government numbers released today. Crapo says the delay is especially troubling considering Congress is expected to consider further legislation this year that will affect Social Security and Medicare, and also notes that he and House Ways and Means Ranking Member Kevin Brady (R-Texas) asked about the reports many months ago and have still received no response.
This bill institutes a new tax on 42 chemicals that will raise prices for everyday consumers. Texans will bear the brunt of these higher prices, because 40 percent of the manufacturing plants that this new tax will hit are in Texas alone.
Biden is pushing us to $30 trillion in debt, and he has been in office for six months. This is something our children and grandchildren are going to be paying for.
While middle-class families are hurting from inflation caused by Democrat spending, it's unconscionable that Democrats want to raise taxes to give more handouts to the rich.
