On Monday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray revealing new whistleblower allegations that FBI policy and protocol were breached in active domestic terrorism investigations and assessments relating to January 6, 2021.
“Acts of violence that took place on January 6 are reprehensible and must never happen again. It is imperative that the Justice Department and FBI perform their investigative activity by the book in order to maintain investigative integrity and credibility,” the senators wrote.
After the whistleblower brought his concerns about the policy and protocol breaches to his FBI supervisors and refused to participate in activities he believed were against procedure, FBI leadership retaliated by suspending his pay and security clearance.
“The alleged actions by FBI senior leadership are unacceptable and send exactly the wrong message. The FBI should never suspend security clearances as a form of punishment or to retaliate against patriotic whistleblowers for stepping forward to report potential wrongdoing,” the senators continued.
Sens. Johnson and Grassley are calling on the FBI to immediately cease the disciplinary actions it is taking to punish the whistleblower activity.
