Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement slamming Education Secretary Cardona’s response to the passage of the Parental Rights in Education bill, in the Florida State Legislature:
“The Department of Education is a bureaucratic monolith that clearly has no understanding of federalism—nor its own jurisdiction. Overstepping its bounds and interfering with the curriculum decisions of states would violate multiple federal laws. Both the Florida legislature and Governor DeSantis should be lauded for protecting the rights of parents and the well-being of children—not threatened. Secretary Cardona and the Department of Education should honor longstanding prohibitions against federal intrusion into state educational decisions and stop their ongoing assault on parents’ educational freedom.”
