U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement following President Joe Biden’s speech on the situation in Afghanistan.
“President Biden’s speech did not match the reality of what’s occurring in Afghanistan. Biden did a lot of finger-pointing but it was his indefensible decisions and failure to prepare that have created the security and humanitarian crisis currently unfolding.
“His words are no comfort to the women and children now forced to live under the repressive Taliban regime. Afghans are so desperate to flee the Taliban that they are clinging onto departing American aircraft.
“For months, I have repeatedly asked the Biden-Harris administration for any plan on withdrawing from Afghanistan. I warned them that the Taliban would not stop until they retook power of the country. Now, unfortunately, the Taliban is back and the United States is less safe – all because of the irresponsibility of the Biden-Harris administration.
“Congress and the American people have questions. Make no mistake, the Biden-Harris administration will be held accountable for this catastrophic failure.
“Why was there never a plan? Why is there still not a plan?”
