House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) and Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) sent a letter to Greenpeace Unearthed requesting information regarding deceptive videos their team produced that appear to be substantially edited and fail to provide proper context and a true record of the conversation that occurred with Exxon employee, Keith McCoy.
“We are writing to request information regarding recent videos produced by Greenpeace’s Unearthed and posted on your website… These videos appear to be substantially edited, creating an incomplete record of the conversation that occurred with Exxon employee, Keith McCoy,” wrote the lawmakers. “Your webpage reveals this deception and contains only edited video excerpts and a characterization of the “interview” but there are no links to the entire video interview or a full transcript.”
Following these developments, Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney requested a transcribed interview of Mr. McCoy. Given the request by the Chairwoman and to gain a better understanding of the context in which Mr. McCoy was asked and answered questions, the lawmakers are requesting the full unedited video of the interview and an unedited transcript no later than August 26, 2021.
“It is critical that the American people view the interview in its entirety before forming any judgments on the veracity, context, and scope of the statements made therein,” concluded the lawmakers.
