Rep. Chip Roy issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 3237, the Emergency Security Supplemental Appropriations Act:

This bill, which contains $2 billion in new spending disguised as emergency spending (and therefore exempt from caps and not paid for), is such a procedural sham.  The text of the bill hadn’t even been provided to members of the House before debate started in the chamber. This was passed at 1:45pm in Senate with the expectation that we would pass it in the House just two hours later, while other votes were occurring, without a copy of the text from leadership, and without full knowledge of what Amendments the Senate added — and with no chance to read or amend the text before voting to boot. That’s unacceptable.

We’re entrusted with the future of this republic and the stewardship of our constituents hard-earned tax dollars and this is how Democrats choose to do business when we’re almost $30 trillion in debt? No way. I will not lend my name or my constituents’ trust to this level of malpractice, regardless of what’s in the bill.
