A statement from the Kurdistan Peshmerga General Command
In the morning of Friday, October 20, 2017 at 0800, the Iraqi military and Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) using American weapons which were given to the Iraqi army launched a full-scale attack on the Peshmerga forces in Altun Kupri (also known as Pirde), with the involvement of Iranian artillery experts. Until now, all of the attacks have been repelled and more than 10 Humvees and one M1 Abrams tank have been destroyed.
During the confrontation, the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces bravely put up a defense.
The aim of the assault is apparently to reclaim all of the Kirkuk administrative areas by the Iraqi government.
