A Democratic Colorado state representative has issued a prepared apology after endorsing Hamas’ massacre of Jews on social media and in an interview recorded at a pro-Palestine rally.
Amid calls for him to be expelled from office, Tim Hernandez, a Democrat representing Denver in the Colorado State House issued a statement claiming to feel remorse for his apparent public support of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel that killed over 1,400 Israeli men, women and children.
“I condemn Hamas, and I condemn– in the strongest ways possible– all violence against civilians. My heart is heavy for the innocent Israeli and Palestinian lives lost. And I am sorry for the harm I have caused to many in the Jewish community and the Israeli community this week,” Hernandez posted to Twitter, under public pressure.
Despite that claim, in tweets immediately below the apology Hernandez continued to defend the pro-Palestine rally in which he was recorded defending the attacks.
Hernandez’s tone in the prepared tweet a marked change from days earlier when Hernandez, an outspoken and radical leftist, seemed to publicly celebrate the massacre.
In the days after the attacks, Hernandez “liked” and shared social media messages “that characterized the bloody attack on Israeli civilians, including women and children, as an act of resistance against Israeli ‘occupation,’” The Washington Times reports.
But it was an impromptu exchange recorded on a cell phone at a Denver rally in support of Palestine that drew the most outrage.
In the exchange, posted to Twitter, a smirking Hernandez blatantly refused to denounce Hamas’ massacre of Jews, instead attacking Israel.
When asked to denounce “the murder of women and children in the streets by Palestinian terrorists.” Hernandez chirped, “I condemn any form of colonial violence.”
“Colonial violence” is how leftists describe the existence of Israel.
When again pressed to “condemn women and children and elderly people being murdered in the street” Hernandez condescendingly purred “What about it?”
Hernandez then mocked “all three people who will see your bulls—t video.”
The video has been viewed over 344,000 times on the original Twitter account alone.
The interview and posts drew immediate calls from Colorado Republicans to expel Hernandez from office, at which point Hernandez issued the prepared apology.
Hernandez, a 26-year-old government school teacher who taught leftist political activism in his classes, was appointed to the seat in August by the Colorado Democratic Party to fill a vacancy.
